Arrival
- All candidates and accompanying family members should wear a mask coming into the facility. If you do not feel well, please stay home.
- Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your assigned time. Please stay in your car upon arrival.
- Get ready with your instruments and do any necessary warm-up in your car.
- When it is ready, we will call you to come in to take the test. Each candidate will have 5-10 minutes to set up, tune and warm-up before performing for the actual recording.
- Allocated time by level (including tuning, warm-up, and actual recording):
- Level 1 and Level 6 will receive 15 minutes
- Level 7 through Level 10 will receive 20 minutes
- You must bring a photo ID with you. For the exam permit, you may show it from your phone.
- Bring your own instrument. For guzheng or yangqin, if you need an instrument from CYCS, please ensure to call or email in advance to make arrangement. You are responsible to tune the instrument before the examination.
- Music stands (if needed) are provided during examination.
- For Level 1 through level 6, you will perform the selected etude and a song piece.
- For Level 7 through level 10, you will perform the selected etude and only one song piece. The song piece to be played will be randomly selected at the exam site during check-in. The song piece randomly drawn is not negotiable. Please do not ask staff or volunteers if you can change the piece. If you skip level, you will also need to play the selected piece from the previous level at the end.
- Check-in takes place right next to the entrance.
- To ensure the best ventilation and be able to maintain social distance between staff and candidates, recording will take place in the common area, which is previously used as the waiting area. Classrooms are not used and will remain closed to all candidates.
- Before you begin, staff will record your photo ID so that the CCOM examiner can confirm your identity during evaluation. Because of this procedure, your photo ID must be a physical copy and electronic version cannot be used.
- You will then be seated at the assigned area and your playing position must face directly to the camera. If you must use a music stand, the music stand will be placed at an angle where your performance is not blocked.
- You will play the etude piece first, followed by the song piece. In between, you do not need to speak or announce the name of the piece. If skipping level for level 7-10, play the song from previous level last.
- If you make a minor mistake, do not start over. Simply continue playing.
- In most cases when there is a repeat in the song, you may go directly to the second ending or skip the repeat.
- All candidates will only have one chance to complete the recording. From announcing your name in the beginning till the end of performing your etude and song piece, video must be continuous and cannot be paused.
- After recording, please take your instruments and belongings and exit promptly.
- Please do not linger in the common area inside as it may affect the next candidate.
