A NEW GENERATION OF CHINESE MUSICAL HERITAGE

California Youth Chinese Symphony (CYCS) is a non-profit organization serving the Bay Area and nation wide. It has a mission of promoting musical diversity and enriching cultural lives of our communities by introducing Chinese traditional music and instruments. We provide high quality and diversified education on Chinese traditional instruments and creatively integrate East-West music using both Chinese and Western instruments.

CYCS currently has more than 100 students in its instrument and orchestra programs. Led by many Chinese music professionals, CYCS offers various instrument classes at different levels including dizi, pipa, erhu, sheng, suona, liuqin, zhongruan, yangqin, guzheng, cello, and Chinese percussion, konghou and matouqin to train young musicians.

The CYCS orchestra performs and introduces Chinese music and traditional instruments to the public through participation in many community cultural events such as the Moon Festival, Chinese New Year celebrations, fundraiser for the home of elderly, and as guest performers in concerts organized by other community organizations. Over the past year, CYCS has become a unique orchestra as the new American-born generation embraces the Chinese musical heritage.

CYCS has taken a leadership role in promoting Chinese music and instrument in the nation. In October 2007, CYCS has successfully organized the American Regional Competition for the China Central Television (CCTV) Chinese Instrument TV Competition. In November 2008, CYCS and the Central Conservatory of Music of China organized the first Chinese Instrument Grade Examination ever in the United States.

We have been well received by the community and have received several matching grants in the past year from corporations such as Prudential, Cisco, and IBM.

California Youth Chinese Symphony is privileged to have many recognized social leaders as well as authoritative and representative Chinese traditional musical figures to serve on our advisory board.

California Youth Chinese Symphony (CYCS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization. We need your support to further our mission to promote Chinese traditional music and instruments.
