LIU Wen Jin

Composer & Conductor

One of the most distinguished contemporary composers and conductors in China. Once the president and artistic director of the China Central National Orchestra, the president of China National Chinese Opera And Dance Drama Company, he is now the artistic advisor of the Company. He has composed and arranged many music for folk instruments, voice, and on different themes, including: The Ballade of Yu Province, Sanmen Gorge Rhapsody, and The Great Wall Capriccio for Erhu. Liu was also praised by the Chinese Music Society of North America as one of the best composers in China.

GU Guan Ren

Composer & Conductor

Gu is a nationally acclaimed first class composer for Chinese instruments. He was the Chairman and Artistic Director of the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra and Vice President of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society. He is now the Honarary President of China Nationalities Orchestra Society, Committee of the Chinese Musicians Association and the deputy director of its traditional instrument department. Gu’s composition successfully embraces both traditional and contemporary styles. His work includes pipa concerto, zhongruan concerto, erhu concerto, and orchestra.

Conductor

He was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music Junior division to study oboe in 1955 and was then admitted to the master class in 1958. Upon his graduation, he joined the Central Symphony. In June 1966, he had an opportunity to pick up the baton and step up to the conductor’s platform. Since then, he has conducted Central Symphony, Shanghai Peking Opera Troupe, Beijing Peking Opera Troupe, China National Song & Dance Ensemble, Central Opera and the National Ballet of China. He is now a conductor of the Chinese National Orchestra.

LIU De Hai

Pipa Master

A professor of the China Conservatory, a member of the standing committee and vice chairperson of the performing arts committee of the China Musician Association. He is the soloist and principal pipa player of the Chinese National Orchestra. He won very high compliements from his pipa concerto performance “” with Boston Symphony, Berlin Symphony, and with renowned conductor Seiji Ozawa. His performance marked a promising passage for the integration of Chinese and Western music.

Pipa Master

Renowned Pipa virtuoso and educator. A professor of the Central Conservatory of Music, and a mentor for master degree students. A member of the Credentials Committee of Ministry of Culture, China Musician Association, the Standing Committee of China Nationalities Orchestra Society, the vice president of China Yangqin Society, the associate principal of the Affiliated High School of Central Conservatory of Music.

CHEN Jia Qi

Suona Master

Renowned Suona virtuoso and educator. A professor of the Central Conservatory of Music. A member of China Musician Association. He has composed many pieces for the instrument and has published various textbooks for suona. His performance was praised by the media both in China and overseas. Many of his students has also become very outstanding musicians.

Shu Zhao

Erhu Master

Renowned erhu virtuoso and educator. A professor of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music and a mentor for master degree students. He has held erhu lecture in Australia and attended many national and international academic conferences. He has cultivated many erhu performers including Yongping Tian. His publication “Shu Zhao Erhu Curriculum” is one of the most popular erhu textbooks overseas.

Renowned Yangqin virtuoso and educator. A professor of the Central Conservatory of Music, and a mentor for master degree students. A member of the Credentials Committee of Ministry of Culture, China Musician Association, the Standing Committee of China Nationalities Orchestra Society, the vice president of China Yangqin Society, the associate principal of the Affiliated High School of Central Conservatory of Music.

Erhu Master

Renowned Erhu virtuoso, Chinese tradiational music educator, and composer. He is a professor of the Central Conservatory of Music and a mentor for master degree students. Liu has lived in Inner Mongolia for many years from which his music was reflected with very strong Mongolian character. Many of his students also became very outstanding musicians.

HU Zhi Hou

Guan Master

Since his graduation from Central Conservatory of Music, he has been teaching within the conservatory and is now a professor. Member of the Academic committee and Degree committee, director of traditional wind instruments and percussion research committee. He has composed and arranged many music for the guan. Many of his students also received excellent results in many national competition.

Dizi Master

Renowned Dizi virtuoso. Dizi Associate professor of Central Conservatory of Music, mentor for master degree students. Member of China Musician Association, committee member of China Nationalities Orchestra Society. He was praised by the Beijing city as an outstanding instructor. He was an author for the curriculum of dizi grade examination and has also been an examiner for the overseas grade exam.

ZHAN Yong Ming

Dizi Master

Renowned Dizi virtuoso, educator, professor, and first grade performer in China. Mr. Zhan studies Dizi with Master Song Ting Zhao. He graduated from China Zhejiang Conservatory, China Central Conservatory of Music, Chinese Academy of Arts, and University of Sydney in Australia. He also received a Ph.D. degree in musicology and a master degree in arts management.

ZHANG Xin Hua

Liuqin & Ruan Master

A first grade performer of China, principal liuqin player and section leader for the plucked instruments of the Chinese National Orchestra. In his debut peformance of Zhongruan concerto “Reminiscences of Yunnan”, he successfully raised zhongruan from an accompaniment instrument to a solo and concerto level. He has also participated in the 23rd Olympic Arts Festival and performed in many countries.

Conductor

Artistic director of Taiwan Xinzhu Province Chinese Orchestra. A counselor of Xinzhu Province, a board of director of the Xinzhu Province Cultural Foundation, a member of Taiwan Society of Chinese Music and the Conducting Professional Committee of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society. Zhou has also studied conducting with Conductor Chun Quan Qu.

Jing Jiang Yu

Film Director

She was formerly a director of Bayi Production in China. His father, Yang YU was a prestigious film artist. After moving to the United States in 1987, she has devoted herself in American-Chinese cultural exchange. She was also praised as the “American-Chinese Cultural Friendship Ambassador” by the US government.

Ginger Cui

Konghou Master

China’s foremost Konghou virtuoso and originator of performing arts on modern Konghou. Once a first grade performer of the China Central National Orchestra, Ginger is now a guest instructor of Konghou at San Jose State University and China Conservatory of Music. She is also the artistic director of the China International Konghou Ensemble.
